Five months since my last entry? Really? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since I haven't had much desire to write anything.

J's first report card from high school has a lot of stuttering in it - A, A, A, A, A(minus). With three of those classes being honors classes, I'm extremely proud of and thrilled for her. She has a very bright future in front of her, with her talents with art and the subjects that interest her.

M had a real good report card, too. Being in 5th grade, hers is more of a progress report. She was thrilled with it, and her teachers absolutely love her. :-)

I don't know how I wound up with two kids as bright and well mannered as these two. My BIL said he won the baby lottery with my nephew (17 months old now), because he is very laid back and almost never fusses. Well, I won the teen/tween lottery -- at least until the Sibling Rivalry rears its ugly head! LOL

That's about all. Work is settling down in the crazy department. Last week was the first week in months I only worked 40 hours. Of course, we are in a "transition" period because our old manager was put in another role, and the muckety-mucks are looking to hire a manager from outside the company. Even if they were hiring from within, I have zero desire to apply. Way, way too much BS. Not only that, I see that position as being one big landmine, and a position that is set up to fail (for a multitude of reasons, and very few of those that deal directly with my department).

J has also been about going skiing. I suppose I should figure out a Saturday to go and take the girls. It'll need to be soon, since there's only about six weeks left for ski season -- possibly shorter considering the lack of snow we've gotten this year. :-/

Yes. It's an actual once-in-two-or-so-month post. Not sure why, since I don't have much to say.

Signs I'm getting old.

1. A few more grey hairs are popping up each day.

2. J is now in high school (and she figured out it's not nearly as scary as she thought).

3. M is now double-digits in age (she's also doing well in 5th grade)

4. It's taking longer and longer to get out of bed in the morning.

Oh wait. That's been happening for 20 years. Nevermind. :-)

5. I'm hearing a few more pops with my joints and such each morning. No pain, though, so it's all good.

I'm sure there's more. That's all that's coming to mind, though.

Work is the usual. I kind of wish I could land something else. However, with available jobs scarce, I'll be happy with the fact that I have a job, and a job that frequently comes with overtime.

All in all, no big issues. We're continuing to find our way along, one day at a time. :-)

I received an e-mail from a friend of mine tonight asking if I would want to "take on the burden of going to a second Phillies game in July?" After about 236 nanoseconds of deep thought, I said yes. :-)

So, I'll be going to games on July 10, and July 31. I can't wait. Thank you, yumemitai. You totally rock. :-)

Scary thought of the week: M is 10. Where has the time gone? She's growing up to be quite the little charmer and she has found a good group of friends. It's actually very cool watching her grow up. Like her sister, she's going to end up doing something amazing as she gets older and goes into adulthood.

In the "I didn't realize how much I missed this" category, last night, J decided to curl up next to me on the couch and watch a TV show with me. It's been a while since she's done that. Being 13, that's not a surprise since she is becoming more independent by the day. Still, it was nice to have that time. Both kids did that a lot when they were younger, and M still sits on my lap and lays on me on occasion.

I'll just conveniently ignore the fact that it was J's bedtime when she did decide to flop on the couch.

Somebody somewhere likes me to be blessed with a good family, good kids and good friends. :-D

I suppose I should say something here since it's been over two weeks since my last entry. The long gaps are the norm anymore. That's actually a good thing, since nothing bad is going on. :-D

Work has finally settled down to about Level 3 insanity. I can certainly live with that. While we still need the money the overtime I work brings, it has been rather nice to not having to work 50-60 hours a week the past 2-3 weeks. I think I needed the break, since I have been working crazy hours since October.

It probably won't last long, but that's ok, too. The extra $$$ is making our financial situation better. I'll be real happy when J's braces and C's car get paid off later this year, and another expense will be paid off right around the new year.

Of course, college is looming in a little over four years. :-/

The financial situation improved enough to the point I felt safe buying some new CD's. I bought 10 over the past couple of weeks, listened to four, and loved them all so far. :-D

The kids continue to do well in school, so obviously I can't complain there. It does feel weird that I'll have a kid in high school in five months, and my little one will be in double-digits in age in less than two months. Where has the time gone???

At any rate, things are tranquil in my world, which suits me just fine. :-D

I was chatting with a co-worker today at the end of his shift. The conversation started off with baseball and the Phillies, then progressed to sports in general, From the general sports talk, the old Philadelphia Spectrum was mentioned (where the Flyers, Sixers and the NLL Wings played). We then talked about concerts we saw there.

I had mentioned that I saw Guns 'N Roses play at the Spectrum in 1991. He asked who opened for them. I mentioned Soundgarden, and his jaw dropped.

It turns out we both were at the same concert, and our seats weren't that far apart from each other. This makes two times we have attended the same event by sheer coincidence. The other was in 2008, for Game 5, Part II (though we knew the other would be at the game).

Another sign this is actually a small world.

My work has decided to go back to our old system to answer incoming e-mails from the people who use our products and services. No one has been able to produce any production reports with the new system since it went live, so we've been driving the bus with a big ol' parachute over the windshield..... and the brakes on the bus don't work. It's amazing we haven't hit anything yet, but I digress.

This new system that was supposed to be more stable..... isn't. Yeah! Brilliance abounds!!

Anyway, so we're back to using the system that was around when dinosaurs walked the Earth, which is ok since we have the flexibility to do our job back. Of course, the old system could crash and burn on us at any time.....

Today, there's been scuttlebutt about scrapping the new e-mail system, and going out what should have been bought in the first place.

No one has ever accused my company of being logical. :-/

I have some new comers to my little corner of LJ. Welcome folks from ask_me_anything.

A little info for the newcomers, my entries can be rather erratic -- both in content and how often I make an entry. Both are largely influenced by what is going on in my life. That said, most of my entries are rather mundane -- about my work, my wife and kids (both daughters. J is 13, M is 9), things going on in my life, sports, and the occasional music video. :-)

Speaking of my kids, J brought her home course selection notice for her freshman year in high school, which is coming this September. She kept telling us that she will be taking four honors classes next year -- Social Studies, Science, Algebra 2 and English.

She lied.

She's actually taking five. She wants to take Honors German as well. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the fifth honors class.

With the exception of the Algebra 2 class, she has willingly signed up for the Honors classes. She needed some convincing from us and her math teacher that the Honors Algebra 2 would be best for her. Her teacher agrees with us that J would be bored senseless in the regular Algebra 2 class.

Our school district has block scheduling at the high school level (to more mirror college), so she won't be taking all five at the same time. 2 or 3 will be in the first semester, and the others will be in the second semester, so it shouldn't be overburdening.

Everyone who knows J has long known she is very intelligent. It's times like this that I am absolutely amazed at just how smart she is. I don't mean to brag, however she truly is an amazing kid young woman -- both with her intelligence and that she has a fairly diverse range of interests -- from drawing to art to poetry to writing stories to her ice skating. It's also amazing how much she has grown up in the past year or two. I just can't help but get the sense that she'll do something truly special as she gets older.

/bragging

In other news. Work is... work. Still trying to get a handle on the quirks of our new system at work and the volume of work we currently have. I can't complain, though, since it means overtime and extra $$$, which is very handy, since the kids have also decided they both want to go to the summer camp they went to last year. I just got a bonus that will just about cover the cost for both kids in its entirety. :-D

Funny how things work out like that. Now it'll be interesting to see what happens when it comes time for our annual raise, and if the raises will be any better than last year, since according to our CEO, we had a "phenomenal" year in 2010.

On second thought... eh - whatever happens, happens. I'm just glad I have a job.

I just love the company I work for and their bass ackward ways.

Today, the new system they were saying would be more "stable" went live today. This system tied my department (which answers incoming e-mails from customers) to the new phone system that also went live today. Both the phone and e-mail components are owned and developed by the same company.

Well, two hours into the day, the new "stable" phone system went kaput, leaving my department flapping in the breeze because we couldn't work. Oh, the e-mail component was working fine, but we couldn't work because the phone system fritzed.

While we did desperately need a new system -- everything we were using was around when dinosaurs walked the earth -- so far, this new system isn't exactly doing what it's supposed to do. Day 1, and it crashes and burns???? Yeah.........

I won't even go into the fact this new system is more cumbersome when responding to e-mails from customers. No point in doing that, since the company shoved this system down our throat without even asking for our input on what we wanted. I guess we're nobodies, even though my department only uses the e-mail system all day, every day. What would we know?

So, this is just the latest clustereff in a long line of clustereffs that has occurred in my company since I started working there.

At least they don't say anything with all of the overtime I work. I suppose I should welcome and embrace all of these clustereffs, since they are the reason for the OT.

But, Lord, if my company ever got its act together......

We had three dentist appointments today -- for me and the not-so-little monsters. 0 cavities. That's always a good thing.

After the appointments, we went by my parents (who live about 10 minutes from the dentist) to see if they were home. They weren't. That's what we get for not calling. Bummer.

Oh well. Another day in Philly, another snow/ice/glop storm. It's snowing now, with the forecast calling for freezing rain and sleet overnight into the morning. That'll make going to work tomorrow fun.

Maybe the roads will be bad enough for work to close, and I can work from home. I don't mind driving in snow. However, ice is a totally different animal, and not one I'm keen on wrestling. More than likely, we'll open late. I'll find out in the morning

As usual, things are pretty mellow outside of the usual kid drama, so 'tis all for now.

First off, only a few days went by between entries, instead of 8 months. There's something in my head I feel compelled to get down somewhere, even if it's nothing major. :-)

Ok, my sickness is not a deathly sickness, but this cold is enough to be annoying. It started Thursday, and hit full force yesterday. This bug has settled in my throat, and it feels like I ate sandpaper. My voice also has turned into a frog voice. Yuck!! Other than that, though, I feel fine, albeit tired.

Enough of that.

M is a full-blown metalhead, music-wise. We bought her a 4GB MP3 player, with a rechargeable battery to replace her current MP3, which she listens to so much she goes through batteries like water. Last night, she found one of the flash drives with a bunch of MP3's saved on it. We proceeded to spend the next three hours going through songs she wanted. The songs were mostly rock, hard rock, metal, and such. Only 1 out of 100 or so songs she didn't want. With M being M, she chattered a lot, too. It was really cool to develop that connection. I think that'll be something she'll remember for a long time.

M doesn't know it yet, but I dumped most of the rest of the MP3's on her player. She'll go bugnuts when she finds 251 songs on her player. LOL. There should be more... not sure why she didn't get them all. Something to figure out later.

We also knew that J is a smart cookie. This is underscored by the fact that she'll be scheduled to take four honors classes in September when she starts high school. Our school district has block scheduling (thus resembles college classes), so it's likely she'll take two honors classes the first semester, and the other two the second semester. She really is an amazing kid, and I think she's starting to realize that. :-D

I have also reconnected with an old online friend after about two years, and that has been nothing short of awesome. He's one of a few people in my life who keep me engaged. I'm lucky to be around a lot of smart and caring people... and you all know who you are, too. :-D

In other news, the Pigeons Eagles lost today. I can't say it wasn't unexpected. They hadn't played well toward the end of the regular season. Oh well. Phillies training camp starts in a few weeks. :-D

Nothing else is streaming to the fingers, so it's time to wrap this up. I will attempt to not let a long period of time pass before posting again. :-)

Yes. It's an actual entry.

It's only a video of a song that's been rattling around in my head, though. If I get the urge to do something resembling an update, I will. I've just had zero urge to do that in the past 8 months. Pretty much the same thing except for the kids finding out on New Years Eve their Aunt F is taking them on a Disney Cruise.

Yeay for Aunt F!!

I have returned from the dead.... or at least from the real world.

One event at work in November kind of blew up into a major cluster$%@^ and I ended up working at least 60 hours a week for the past 2 1/2 months. Work has just now settled down this week. As it is, today was the last day in a stretch of working 26 days in a row.

That is not a misprint. 26 straight days of working. Granted, not all days were 8 hours, though most were at least 8 hours... or more.... not to mention having maybe 10 days off since things blew up in November.

I don't think I've reached the burnout point, but I am sure *thrilled* to be off for three days in a row.

So, not that anyone wondered why I disappeared off the face of the Earth, but that's why. I'm sure I missed a bunch over the past 2 1/2 months. **Shrug**

Anyway, I'll try not to let another 10 weeks go before posting again. :-P

Caution! Sports/Baseball-related post!

I know at least one person on my f-list watched the Phillies/Rockies game tonight. It was a very maddening, exhilarating and tense game... a game the Phillies pulled it out in the 9th to win the game and take the NLDS series 3 games to 1. This was a very close, entertaining series to watch

Next up are the Dodgers, which should prove to be another outstanding series.

So, yumemitai, has your heart re-started yet? Mine is just returning back to normal after going 100 miles an hour during the 9th! LOL
